This pretty little needlecase reminds me of the one my Grandma used to let me use when I was staying with her during the summer holidays. A combination of embroidery, applique and a few little hexagons combine to create this delightful needlcase.

What you need

  • 8” x 8” cream spot, background
  • 1 (1½” x 5½”) strips each of 5 coordinating fabrics, needlecase back
  • 7 (2”x 2”) squares of assorted prints, hexagons
  • 6” x 9½” teal print, inner pocket
  • 5½” x 9½” light blue floral, lining
  • 2 (1” x 9”) strips, ties
  • 1 (2” x 36”) strip, binding
  • 6 ply stranded embroidery floss, I used Valdani #P4 aged white light, #P5 tarnished gold, #P10 antique violet, #511 black sea, #519 green olives, #JP12 seaside, #078 aged wine and #031 tealish blue
  • 10” of ½” width cotton lace, top edge of pocket
  • 4½” x 13” cream wool, needle keeper
  • Small lobster clasp, end of scissor cord
  • 2 x 3/8” wood spools or beads, end of ties
  • 5½” x 9½” fusible lightweight batting such as Pellon
  • 5½” x 9½” bag batting
  • 7 x 3/8” precut paper hexagon liners
  • Apliquick rods, optional
  • Appliqué paper, optional
  • Fabric glue pen, optional
  • Roxanne’s Glue Baste-It, optional
  • Template plastic
